Salmon Sundays – A Special Treat for a Special Client

Sometimes caregiving is about so much more than schedules and routines — it’s about finding ways to bring joy, comfort, and connection into someone’s life. Recently, one of my clients reminded me just how meaningful those moments can be.

For three weeks, he had been asking me to make salmon for him. The request was simple, but there was one problem — I don’t eat fish, and I’m not comfortable cooking it. Still, I didn’t want him to miss out on something he was clearly looking forward to.

That’s when I thought of my husband, Matt. He’s a professional cook, having graduated from Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts in Boulder, Colorado. He doesn’t often visit my clients due to HIPAA rules, but with permission from both my client and his family, we arranged something special.

We cooked at my client’s house, making a beautiful plate of lemon garlic white rice, baked green beans, and a Mediterranean-inspired tomato and cucumber salad, alongside Matt’s perfectly cooked salmon. Even Marley, my client’s loyal dog, was part of the event — my client’s rule is that Marley eats everything he does, so yes, the dog got his own plate of the full meal.

By his third bite, my client looked up with a smile and said, “We should do this every week.” A little later, he asked again — this time officially — if we could make “Salmon Sundays” a weekly tradition. And just like that, a new tradition was born.

Now, every Sunday, Matt will join us in the kitchen to prepare this special meal. It’s not just about the salmon — it’s about the laughter, conversation, and the simple joy of sharing good food together… even with Marley.

At Kayla Cares LLC, we believe moments like these feed more than the body — they feed the soul.

Stay tuned — we’ll be sharing Matt’s salmon recipe in an upcoming blog!
